The negotiations between Barcelona and Inter Milan have been going on for over months.
Barcelona were prepared to offer Arturo Vidal along with 90 million euros for Lautaro Martinez, however, the Italian team rejected the offer and demanded Antoine Griezmann to be included in the deal as well as a loan player. The board at Barca rejected the offer since losing out on two key players along with 90 million euros was not a feasible option for the board.
As mentioned in my previous blog, Antonio Conte is on his way to build a strong squad and he cannot afford to lose a player of Martinez's calibre without getting a like to like replacement. The Argentine national team forward has been in good form this season. He has formed a formidable partnership with Romelu Lukaku and in 33 appearances across all competitions to date, he has scored 17 goals and provided four assists.
Nerazzurri would prefer to keep the 22-year-old Argentine forward, who is contracted to the Milanese club until 2023, and will begin talks to renew his contract after July 7th, when his €111 million release clause expires.
However incase Inter lose Martinez they need to look for a replacement.
There are rumours about Conte's interest in the Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as a replacement.
Inter Milan could move for Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus, if Lautaro Martinez joins Barcelona this summer. According to reports from the Manchester Evening News, Inter have targeted Jesus as a replacement. He is not a regular first team starter in the Premier League, due to Pep Guardiola’s preference for Sergio Aguero.
But according to the latest rumours coming in today states Manchester City are interested in signing Centre Back Skriniar and Inter Milan are asking cash plus Sergio Aguero. If this deal goes through then it looks very likely that Inter would be open to sell Lautaro Martinez.
It would be clear by first week of July, how things are going to pan out, depending on the negotiations between Martinez and Inter Milan.
Due to the unforseen pandemic and the financial crunch that every club is in, the transfer market is turning out to be a challenging one for every club and we will see different team implementing different strategies.
