Comparison of Transfer Revenue - Premier League

Chelsea has been very active this transfer window. They have completed two high profiles transfers is Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, and they have been linked with many more players. After the news of Chelsea's potential signings of Kai Havertz and  Ben Chilwell broke out. The rival fans have been accusing Chelsea of breaching the Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

I would like to explain how Chelsea is well within the regulations compared to other clubs.

Here is an idea of total number of transfers done by Chelsea in past two seasons. These figures are based on amount spent and received in transfer, excluding the investments from owner.

Here is the total Transfer Revenue for 2019/20 season for Chelsea FC.

Below is for 2020/21 season till yesterday.
Chelsea are still in profit of about £84m. This is excluding the transfers of Havertz and Chilwell. So once those transfers are completed Chelsea may well exceed the £84m and might show a loss. However the point to be noted here is, once Chelsea offloads Emerson, Bakayoko and Batshuayi etc which they are very much going to do, they would again be in profit.

Let's check out Manchester United.
Here is Manchester United's transfer figure for 2019/20.
Below is for 2020/21 season. The arrivals and departures includes the loan players as well.
Manchester United are at a loss of £119m from last season. This is including all the revenue from outgoing players and money spent on incoming players, which includes Wan -Bissaka, Maguire and B. Fernandes. This season Manchester United doesn't look like they are going to sell any more players. So obviously any incoming player would add to further negative revenue.

On the other hand Manchester city.
After taking into consideration all the transfers done last season, Manchester City were at a loss of £88m last season. With the few transfers done by them this season they have a further loss of -£30m which may very well increase depending on their further business.

Manchester City transfer activities for 2019/20.
And below is for present season 2020/21.
They are at a bigger risk of breaching FFP regulations but we know for a fact that teams Manchester City and PSG does not care about it, and they have the power to come out of any such situations.

Even Arsenal has an overall balance in last two seasons over £100m.

Arsenal's 2019/20 season.
And 2020/21 season.
With the figures of past two seasons, Chelsea seems to be only team operating in positive figures which may very well lead to few more transfers this season.
